The garage sale went great! I had business cards that looked awesome! My mom made them. If people made a purchase, I gave them a card. There was a very generous donation made by my 1st grade teacher. We came to a grand total of …
$81.50
Thank you to everyone who bought something or donated! The money will go towards sending items to Afghanistan.
I also found something for another possible project. I was able to talk to Pam at Second Nature Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility. She takes care of baby animals like rabbits, squirrels, and raccoons. She said that I could help feed or clean the cages. It sounds really neat! There sure are a lot of different ways to volunteer.
Hello everyone! Just wanted to post a quick update on this month’s project.
The basket at school is getting heavier everyday. I hope everyone keeps bringing socks, hats, gloves, & scarves. I would love to see it FULL!
We are doing a garage sale this weekend. I am going to try to sell some stuff to help pay for shipping! I am making bracelets to sell. I think I’m going to get a lot done tomorrow night…after all my studying. My grades fell a little bit & I need to get them back up. It’s hard to do everything but I’ll keep going!
I have several reasons for posting tonight. Molly is too kind to let you know that I made a big mistake today. (that’s right, even Moms mess up sometimes)
Molly wanted to use a picture of Afghanistan on her sign for the collection at school. I was in a hurry so I found one on the Internet. I printed it & cut it out. She added it to her board & I thought it looked pretty good. Apparently, I didn’t look close enough. The names of the cities on the map were rewritten in a way that mocked many different cultures. Had I read the names, I would not have chosen that particular map. I apologize to everyone, especially those the map would have offended. Fortunately, there are people in the school that are observant and the map has been corrected. (thank you!)
Lessons learned today = (1) Mom is not perfect, (2) Procrastination is not good = you will make mistakes when rushed, (3) Internet is only as good as the information that you use, and (4) Mistakes can be corrected.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Today was a HUGE day for my March project. We took our basket to school. By adding the signs that we made last night, we have a perfect place to collect hats, socks, gloves, & scarves. My Principal wrote a letter to send to all of the kids at school so hopefully we will see the basket full soon.
My aunt passed out the pencils that we sold to the kids at her school. It was a big success. THANKS to everyone that participated. We have permission to do the pencil project at my school. We will be passing them out on Earth Day so we have to get started printing the forms. We will be doing more than double of the first round so it will take a lot of time. I’m sure we will be better at all of this now that we have done it once.
Mom made a couple of phone calls today & we are going to be part of an indoor garage sale in a few weeks. I hope I will be able to raise some money that day. I know that I can’t do a bake sale but I will come up with an idea for something to sell. I can’t wait!
The pencil project is almost finished! Me and my mom tied the forms with the messages on them to the pencils. It was a huge sucess! Thank you to everyone who bought pencils, or helped in any way with this project. I would really like to thank my aunt. She will deliver the pencils to her school on St.Patrick’s day. She has helped with so much.

As you may have noticed, I now have a guestbook that you can sign if you visit my website. You can sign there, but you can still leave comments if you would like!
The pencil fundraiser is going great. We sold 160!!! This afternoon, Mom & I are going to punch holes in all of the messages and tie them on the pencils. It’s going to take a while. We have to separate them by class so that they can be passed out on St. Patrick’s Day.
I want to tell you about a cool thing that is happening in Southern Illinois. This morning we heard that the Z100 people are doing a fundraiser. They are waitressing at local restaurants & the tips go to St. Jude. Today they were at a place called Honeybakers. Mom said we could go. The food was GREAT!! Kent was our celebrity waiter. He even let me talk on the radio. If you would like to see what they are doing for St. Jude, just click here .
As you know, I am sending hats, gloves, and socks to kids in Afghanistan. Well, it costs money to ship things overseas…lots of money! I have to do a fundraiser to help pay for the postage.
My Aunt is helping at her school. We sent the kids a note that said they could send a pencil and a message to their friends on St. Patrick’s Day. It only costs 50 cents and they get a cool, sparkly pencil. All that mnoey will go towards shipping costs. My mom and I cut out the slips so that 300 kids each got one. It took a while! If you are someone from her school and you are reading my website because of this project, feel free to leave a comment.
Today, my Mom went to my school to talk to the Principal. We are hoping to do this same project at my school for Earth Day. I hope that it is okay. We will find out later.
I would like to thank my Aunt Cindy for helping with this project. Also, I would like to thank Mom so much for helping me with everything!
My mom & I were in the car for a long time so I decided to brainstorm. Here is a list of the things I wrote down.
- Call to see what Hollie needs the most
- Call G’pa to see if he still has the gloves my Mom bought a long time ago
- Get Hollie’s address
- Think of ideas for a fundraiser
- Find out how much it will cost to ship the boxes
- Find out if there are special forms
- Ask my Stepdad if he will help with the Customs forms
- Ask my Principal if we can put up a box at school
- Write a letter to the kids at school asking for hats, gloves, etc.
- Decorate the box
There are a lot of things to do! I can’t wait to get started.
March is here and I am ready for my next project. It has been hard to decide. This month my project is called “Help for Hollie”.
Let me explain.
We have a friend who is serving in Afghanistan. She helps take care of people that get hurt. She works in a clinic and she helps adults and kids. A lot of the kids are barefoot. It is winter and they are cold! Anytime you ask Hollie what she needs, she asks for things for the kids. She is far away from her family & friends and she can’t just run to Walmart to get fun stuff to do or eat. Instead of asking for things for herself - she asks for gloves, hats, socks, etc. for these kids.
This month, we are going to help Hollie. I will be doing a collection for socks, gloves, mittens, and hats. The things will be sent to Hollie in Afghanistan. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
