There are so many ways to help others. You don’t even have to help people…animals need care too. These are a few organizations in Southern Illinois that are always willing to have help.

Second Nature Wildlife Rehab
Thompsonville, IL 618-627-2000
Pam Sundeen is a wonderful, caring lady who is busy taking care of orphaned, injured, or ill wildlife. At Second Nature Wildlife Rehab, you may see bunnies, squirrels, possums, raccoon, groundhog, fox, coyote, bobcat and fawn. Kids are welcome at the center to help care for, clean, upkeep, maintenance, and other projects. Fundraising is another option. Many youth groups hold “baby showers” asking for items on the wish list that is on the website.
This summer, you can see some of the animals at local libraries. On June 10th, they will be visiting the Johnston City Library.

Good Samaritan House
Carbondale, IL 618-457-5794
The Good Samaritan House provides services to the needy in the Carbondale area. Their services include an emergency shelter, a transitional housing program, a soup kitchen, a food pantry, and an emergency assistance program.
Right now, Susan Metcalf is the executive director. After many years of making the Good Sam House a home to those who do not have any other, she is going to retire. If you have time to help this summer, you will meet a fabulous lady. Good Sam is always in need of donations.

Heartland Heroes
Carterville, IL 618-985-9409
Heartland Heroes was created to raise support and and HONOR our HEROES both here in the United States and the men and women of our military that are stationed overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait and to help the children of these countries get an education so they can have a better future.
They have lots of projects for kids to do. You could make cards to send in the care packages or help with one of their fundraisers.
