Drumstick Dash

Today my mom and I volunteered at the Drumstick Dash race!

This race benefits the Evansville Rescue Mission. The proceeds from the race actually go to help the Gobbler Gathering, which I will be doing here soon. (More information to come on that.)

We were course volunteers. Basically we set up the barricades in our area, made sure cars didn't drive on the track, and cheered on the participants!

Everyone did a fantastic job. There were a lot of cool costumes, too. Congrats to everyone on such a successful event!

Going for the Gold

Hello Everyone!

Today I had my first meeting with my mentor for my Girl Scout Gold Award. Mr. Geoff Edwards works at the University of Evansville and is the Director for the Center of Student Engagement. I am very excited to be able to work with him on this project.

Here's just a short version of what my project entails. It is titled "4 Months of Philanthropy." Every month I will pick a topic and help organizations within that topic. November is hunger, December is children, January is military, and February is acts of kindness. After volunteering at these places I will interview someone from each organization in order to create a video. The purpose of the video is to show people all the options they have of places to volunteer and increase the amount of time people spend helping others!

My step dad and I also volunteered at the LST Veteran's day breakfast this morning. Such a great opportunity to serve those who have served us! We heard lots of great stories and helped lots of great people.

This new journey is going to be challenging, but I know with all the support I have it will be a successful one!

Valentine shout-out

Do you remember how wonderful Valentine's Day was while you were in grade school?  We would sign those cheesy little cards and give them to all of our friends in school.  The rule was - if you brought any of them in to school, you had to give one to every kid in your class.  Of course, there were no rules about who received my favorites.

Valentine's Day is not as much fun now. There are too many people that do not receive a card on February 14th.  In my annual attempt to brighten as many lives as I can, I will be making/collecting Valentine's cards to send out into the world.  If anyone would like to help, just let me know.

Have a great day!

The excitement one e-mail can bring...

Just wanted to write a short post about my exciting news today... I got my first reply from a soldier!!! It made my day. He was very appreciative and I am going to list a quote from his e-mail below...
I am currently in Korea and am very far from my family this Christmas so I am very blessed to know that there are people such as yourself that care enough to take time out of their busy schedule to send nice little reminders of home to us soldiers that cant be at home.
This totally proves the point that soldiers love to hear from home! If you're looking for some way to help out the troops this holiday season, or any other time throughout the year, look no further. Writing a letter or two is a great way to help, and it's cheap, too!

If you would like some help on doing a project similar, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to help as much as I can. Keep doing great things!

  • Wow. What a crazy whirlwind this week has been.

My mom, step dad, and I just finished the packages so that we can take them to the post office tomorrow morning. There has been such an outpouring of donations from people all over in the community and I am forever grateful for the support. Here is a list of all the people I would like to give a HUGE thank you to...

    Kathy DiDomizio
    Kristina DiDomizio
    Cris Myers
    Linda Gammon
  • Nikki Mcbrian
  • Lisa Pelczynski
    Tiffany Hassebrock
  • Rosalyn Hassebrock
    Suzanne Hunter
    Sydney Hunter
    Kelly Birkhead
    Tropicana Evansville
    Danny Knabe
    Madi Liggett
    Domonique Ryan
  • Nicole Setzekorn
  • Chad Setzekorn
  • Steve Harriss
  • Lori Harriss

Without all these people and more to support me, this project would not have been possible. Seeing all the items makes me so happy and I know it will make many soldiers happy, too. Now, I just wait to see when they make it to Korea and hope to get some e-mails back! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone, don't forget about those who aren't home during the holiday times so that we can be.

    Letters, letters, and more letters.

    Good evening!

I thought I would tell a little bit of information about the troop that the packages are being sent to. It is a group of soldiers stationed in South Korea. According to the private in charge of the donations, morale is very low because their mission was just extended even longer. I can't imagine what this feels like, especially so close to the holidays. More and more donations are coming in everyday and I couldn't be more excited to reward these people for their sacrifices!

Well, I've gotten all the stockings put together with help from my mom and Steve. Now, I have to write 50 letters to send to each of these deserving heroes! I will admit that I waited until the last minute to write them, but I am determined to get them done.

As I was writing letter number 42, (yes when you write that many letters in such a short amount of time you like to keep track... haha!), I was listening to Pandora on my iPod. I was super tired when the song "Letters from Home" came on. It was just what I needed to keep me going. It is very important for these letters to be included because soldiers love hearing from back home. If you haven't heard this song, please take a listen!

    Stockings of Thanks

    Hello everyone!

I recently attended the Girl Scout National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a weekend full of lots of girls trying to change the world! Throughout the trip, we all came together to help each other plan a service project to complete when we got home. The goal was to improve areas all around the world.

I decided to support the troops through my project. The original idea was to sew 50 stockings and stuff them with a letter, a pen, a notebook, and a candy cane. After asking for candy cane donations through a Facebook post, I realized I could do so much more. I got so much support that I asked for donations of other items including chapstick, single serving drink pouches, candy, playing cards and more! I'm very excited for this project and hoping for a great outcome.

    Oh my goodness!

The Evansville Courier & Press has mentioned me in an article about volunteering.  I appreciate the recognition but there are so many ways to help others.  I hope this leads others kids into volunteering.

If this is your first time to my site, please feel free to look around.  I am always willing to hear about new ideas.
